SuperGeek Albert Park, VIC 3206
Albert Park, a suburb of Melbourne which is located 3km south of Melbourne’s CBD, with an population of just under 6,000 residents according to the 2011 Census. This suburb is well know for being the home to the Formula One Australian Grand Prix, which has been hosted there since 1996. The Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit is also here and is operated on the public roads.
Albert Park was first occupied by Indigenous Australians, which was around 40,000 years ago when the suburb was still made up of swamps and lagoons. Albert park was also used as a garbage dump, a military camp and recreation (among it’s history) before the artificial lake was built. From there the main park (which is where the suburb name originated from) was declared a public park and named in 1864 to honor Queen Victoria’s consort, Prince Albert.
